One thing is for sure: The new Stuibenfall Via Ferrata in Umhausen ranks among the highlights in Tirol. Exceptional nature exploration coupled with a truly outstanding sporty challenge - for passionate climbers from 10 years onwards. The new Via Ferrata was opened with a great festival on 22 June 2008.
The mighty Stuiben Falls in Umhausen are Tirol's highest waterfalls with a total height of 159 meters. Since June 2008 the area boasts a new attraction - a truly unique highlight not to be missed! The nature spectacle features a parallel, 450 m long climbing trail with 300 meters of difference in altitude. Passionate climbers reach the starting point via a suspension bridge located above the Ötzi Village. Here they can improve their skills and try the appropriate climbing equipment before they start the tour. Two local mountain guides, Alexander Riml and Ewald Holzknecht, have designed and installed the via ferrata according to plans of Ernst Riha and Hermann Falkner. The entire route has countless vertical crossings, short overhanging sections, a resting area and two small bridges suspended by ropes. Especially the end of the route and the exit in vicinity to the bridge are extremely demanding: climbers have to cross the rushing Stuiben Falls! Those who prefer a less challenging trail can choose the alternative route leading across the forest, past a wonderful viewing platform next to the waterfall. Further panoramic platforms for both hikers and walkers can be found along the "normal" walking path along the Stuiben Falls. The trail also offers great views of the avid climbers amid the rock face.
