CANYONING

Canyoning is the second pillar of the Ötztal outdoor tour. Hiking through gorges is another interesting way to get to know the meadows, brooks and Alpine area of the Ötztal valley. With equipment similar to rafting, with the exception of sturdier boots, a harness and a mountaineer's helmet, a certified canyoning guide helps us to abseil from a bridge into the gorge. The view down from the bridge is breathtaking and exciting. We hike through knee-high water to the first water slide. We sit down, put our hands to our chest and off we go!

The water is like a protective coat and washes you down to the water basin below. Dive in, come up and take a deep breath - you're feeling run riot! "Click", the karabiner is fastened and you can safely abseil down a waterfall to get to the next level. "Lean back", commands the guide.

No sooner said than done. The water beats against the helmet and your face, you feel the energiy of the water everywhere - you feel reborn! After some of these passages we get to the end of the gorge where we enjoy a schapps to celebrate!

The Ötztal valley with its numerous gorges, waterfalls and mountain brooks is a paradise for canyoning.

Because of the different structures of the gorges guests can enjoy tours at different levels of difficulty. Tours range from beginner's and children's tours to very difficult tours e.g. in the Auer Klamm gorge in Oetz. Jumps from a height of 16m guarantee adrenaline kicks. The combination of water and rock, hiking, abseiling, jumping and swimming makes canyoning a sport with a difference. Accompany us through the gorges of the Ötztal valley.
